: 11 March 2002 : I once found a cracked mirror glued into the back of a book on Salinger. Today, in the bookshop’s second-hand section, I was looking through a little old brown hardback: Famous Plays of 1932. Gollancz. There was a bookmark in it, seemingly as old as the book itself, one side printed with horizontal lines under “BOOKS TO READ” – maroon print on cream card. Nothing had been written in.
